Quebec City, March 3, 2017—The 8th edition of Manif d’art–Quebec City Biennial will be storming the city for the next few weeks! This year’s Biennial aims to attract an even broader public through a multitude of new activities that will delight art enthusiasts of all types and ages. Manif d’art 8, with its vast and highly original program, is for everyone!
La P’tite Manif
The Biennial, in fact, is for the entire family! This year’s edition was designed with children in mind. With La P’tite Manif, children and their families are offered a wide range of activities at various points throughout the city: creation workshops, shows, exhibitions and the creation of a collective artwork. In addition, the Parcours découverte (a playful itinerary of discoveries) and the Parcours poussettes (stroller outing) were created specially for families! Window displays at Simons
The event’s Official Presenter, La Maison Simons, will exhibit the creations of nine artists in as many display windows at their three branches in Quebec City from February 2 to April 16. Each in their own way, these works approach the theme of Manif 8—The Art of Joy—as the expression of a wish, desire or dream. Each of these nine showcases can be seen as open windows on some of our most innermost aspirations. They represent quests for beauty, happiness and well-being—at times somewhat naïve perhaps, but nonetheless filled with hope and sincerity. Simons
Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec: the central exhibition site of Manif d’art 8
In 2017, for the first time, the central exhibition site of the Biennial is a museum. The new Pierre Lassonde Pavilion of the MNBAQ, a work of art in itself, would seem to be the ideal focal point for Manif d’art 8. The works of some fifteen artists—installations, video works, canvases and even a performance—will be presented within its walls. Inviting itineraries!
To encourage the public to take part in this major artistic event, and to visit its many exhibition sites throughout the city, Manif d’art has mapped out five itineraries, including stops at the Musée national de beaux-arts du Québec, the Maison Hamel-Bruneau and Méduse, to name but a few. So whether by bus, car or on foot, everyone will be able to experience all that Manif d’art has to offer!
Twice as many public artworks
Always striving to make art more accessible, the Biennial has doubled the number of public artworks this year with 13 works displayed throughout the city. Artists from both here and abroad invite the public to keep their eyes open, as art will be invading the capital’s streets and parks. On billboards, in buses and display windows—no place is out of bounds for Manif d’art 8, which is implanting art everywhere! Maison Hamel-Bruneau
Already a “friend” of the Biennial, given that it has hosted satellite activities in the past, the Maison Hamel-Bruneau is now part of the official program. Drawings, sculptures, photographs and installations by Paryse Martin and Josée Landry Sirois will be exhibited at this heritage site from February 17 to May 14 as part of Manif d’art 8. About Manif d’art 8
One of Canada’s major contemporary art biennials, Manif d’art 8–Quebec City Biennial will present, from February 17 to May 14, 2017, the work of over 100 artists from all disciplines. In addition to its exhibitions, the event will offer a constellation of activities based on the theme of The Art of Joy, as defined by curator Alexia Fabre. A total of 35 cultural organizations have helped to make this international festival an unmissable event for novices and specialists alike.
