At the Bibliothèque Gabrielle-Roy from March 4 to 29, 2017, Manif d’art 8 is presenting the new exhibition Cultivons la joie, along with several stimulating activities for children. Come and discover a space that is both playful and educational, based on the theme of the Biennial, and embark on a quest for joy!
La P’tite Manif consists of three sections, each packed with entertaining and creative activities.
Exhibition: Cultivons la joie
Connected with the Biennial’s other exhibitions, Cultivons la joie has been designed with children in mind. An interactive installation and a visual documentation of the works selected for Manif d’art 8 will be presented in an entertaining way, suitable for children. Both young and old are invited to explore and interact with the large “Wish Tree” standing in the heart of the library’s Place des enfants. Inspired by the Asian tradition in which these trees symbolize freedom, hope and spirituality, the installation is a space to dream, to experience the sensation of joy.
March 4 to 29
Monday to Friday – 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Creation Workshops for Children
This series of creation workshops for children is an opportunity for young and old to discover the theme of Manif d’art 8, and to ponder its implications. Where does joy originate? What sensations does it bring? How can it be maintained, shared? What are the various ingredients of happiness?
Each activity includes a visit to the exhibition Cultivons la joie, as well as a workshop that encourages children to invent their own recipe for joy. Diverse artistic techniques, used by the Biennial’s participating artists, will be proposed.
Duration – 50 minutes
Recipe for Joy
If a recipe for joy existed, what would be its ingredients? After a presentation of certain works by artists on the program and their approach to the concept of joy, the children will be invited to add to the “recipe” according to their own perspective. The workshop will encourage children to use their imagination in coming up with their own personal recipes.
Large-scale Work for Group
Children are invited to work together on a large-scale work, which will be developed throughout La P’tite Manif. Deriving inspiration from The Art of Joy and the works of participating artists, the children will create a vibrantly coloured mural.
