Marianne Nicolson takes over a building’s glass facade by designing sinuous and dynamic compositions. Drawn from the ancestral Kwakwaka’wakw culture and pictograms, they evoke Indigenous cosmogony.

Of Scottish and Dzawada’enuxw descent (British Columbia’s Kwakwaka’wakw community), Marianne Nicolson was born in 1969. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design (1996), a master’s degree in visual arts from Concordia University (1999), and a PhD in linguistics, anthropology, and art history from the University of Victoria (2013). Her work has been exhibited at the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Indigenous Art Centre in Gatineau, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City, and the 17th Biennale of Sydney. She has completed public art projects for the Nanaimo Art Gallery and Vancouver International Airport.
