Resulting from a long process of wood engraving, Christriane Baumgartner’s monumental prints The Wave and Phoenix confront the elemental forces of nature.

Christiane Baumgartner, a native of Leipzig, Germany, was born in 1967. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig, she completed her master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London in 1999. Her works have been viewed at EAST International in Norwich and at the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham. In 2006 she took part in the Eye on Europe exhibition of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. In 2014 she received the Mario Avati award from France’s Académie des beaux-arts. Her works appear in over 30 public collections including those of the Albertina Museum in Vienna, Austria, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris, France.
