The gloomy worlds of this artistic duo create phantasmagorical ecosystems on the verge of reality. The Who’s Haunts immerses the viewer in a house engulfed by the entropic forces of nature.

Jim Holyoak and Matt Shane

Jim Holyoak completed a BFA at the University of Victoria in 2004 and a master’s in drawing and painting at Concordia University (Montreal) in 2011. His work has been shown at Optica contemporary arts centre (Montreal), the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art (Kelowna), Centre Clark (Montreal), and the Gemeentemuseum (The Hague). In 2017, he won the Nonesuch Art of Paper Award. His work is included in the collections at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, and the Senvest Collection of New Canadian Art. He lives and works in Montreal.

Matt Shane was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. He holds a BA in Visual Arts from the University of Victoria (2004) and a Master’s degree from Concordia University (2013). He has won numerous scholarships and collaborated with artist Jim Holyoak for years. He has completed residencies and presented his work in North America, Europe and Asia. One of his recent works with Holyoak is permanently on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal. Shane lives and works in Montreal, Pender Islands, British Columbia, and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
