Parastou Forouhar’s butterflies appear to be visual syntheses of the notions of freedom and constraint. Individually, however, they seem as trapped as the bodies depicted on their wings; but after gathering together for the same flight, they once again soar towards the sky, towards freedom.

Parastou Forouhar

(Iran / Frankfort, Germany)

Parastou Forouhar has a degree in visual arts from the University of Tehran and a master’s degree from Offenbach University of Art and Design in Germany. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world, particularly in Iran, Germany, England, South Korea, China and Australia. Forouhar has also participated in several prestigious art events including, in 2013, the 5th Moscow Biennale and the Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art. The artist is represented by the gallery Pi Artworks (London and Istanbul).
