Manifestation internationale d’art de Québec is once more proudly presenting its biennial event, the Manif d’art, dedicated to the presentation and promotion of contemporary visual arts. The theme of this 2012 edition, Machines – The Shapes of Movement, a proposal curator Nicole Gingras made as of our first discussion with her, is highly evocative and reveals important trends in contemporary art. For this major event presented in Québec City and surrounding areas, the curator has gathered artists from Québec, Canada and abroad.

Not only is Manifestation internationale d’art de Québec pleased to be holding the Manif d’art 6 in Espace 400e Bell, it is delighted to count on the precious support of longstanding collaborators to present some of the program’s activities. The Manif d’art 6 will take place in 20 exhibition venues in Québec City, Wendake and Lévis. Of special note this edition: the collaboration of the Musée de la civilisation, which is providing the Musée de l’Amérique française as an exhibition venue.

We thank all those who have responded to our invitation to participate: artists, critics, thinkers and collaborators. Your involvement contributes to the wealth and diversity of the activities being offered. We also wish to thank the staff of Manifestation internationale d’art de Québec, its board of directors and its interns and generous volunteers. Thanks as well to our private and public partners; your support is essential to continued research and development in the arts.

Throughout the month of programming, let yourselves be seduced by artistic proposals shown in varied exhibition venues, and by performances, public action and conferences proposed throughout the city.

Dear public, collaborators and artists, may you experience and share wonderful discoveries and the joys of art during this sixth edition of the Manif d’art!

MACHINES – THE SHAPES OF MOVEMENT

Espace 400e Bell, located in Québec City’s old port, is the main venue for this year’s event, promising excellent visibility for  contemporary art. Fifteen artists are presenting several never before seen works, proposing various conceptions of machines and the movement that brings them to life. All the winning features of Espace 400e Bell have been called into play to make this event a success.

In addition to exhibitions, the official program of the Manif d’art offers conferences, performances, master classes as well as guided tours for the general public and school groups. What’s more, local organizations have programmed a host of satellite activities: awards, launches, projections, an auction, live radio broadcasts, exhibitions, etc.

By organizing activities that, like the Manif d’art, are designed to reach varied audiences, Manifestation internationale d’art de Québec (MIAQ) proposes non-conventional contexts for creation and presentation that are accessible to all, thereby fostering interrogation into current issues surrounding contemporary art.

MIAQ is pursuing its mandate to promote and present contemporary art by presenting the sixth edition of the Manif d’art, the Québec City biennial. With the participation of several collaborators from the cultural and artistic sectors, the Manif d’art is developed around a central theme that is exclusive to each edition. This year, more than 80 artists from Canada and abroad with show work inspired by the theme Machines – The Shapes of Movement in 30 exhibition venues in Québec City, Wendake and Lévis.
