Carole Epp – Opening at MATERIA
From April 16 to May 30, as part of Manif d’art 5, a bi-annual event in visual arts, under this year’s theme “CATASTROPHE? QUELLE CATASTROPHE!”, MATERIA presents “A Collection of Small Miseries”. It is the first solo exhibition in Province of Quebec devoted to the ceramist Carole Epp, originally from Saskatchewan.

The Manif d’art 5 will be present with several of its partners at The Armory Show in New York City. At a press conference on March 5, Ms. Sylvie Fortin, curator of the Manif d’art 5, will announce the artists she has chosen for the 5th edition of the Que?bec City Biennial.

Catastrophe? Quelle catastrophe! : theme of La Manif d’art 5
While catastrophe dominates the contemporary imaginary and mainstream media, its real work remains elusive. Its hypervisibility safeguards its foundational, requisite invisibility. Which is to say that the omnipresence of the catastrophic event acts as a smokescreen, ensuring the very invisibility of catastrophe’s real work.

Manifestation internationale d’art de Québec is pleased to announce the appointment of Sylvie Fortin, Editor-in-Chief of the award-winning international contemporary art magazine ART PAPERS, as curator of the Manif d’art 5, to be held in 2010. Manif d’art will celebrate its 5th anniversary with Fortin’s project in 2010.
