A Word from the Director
La Manif d’art has once more ended on a positive
note and a public interested in skimming or delving
into the second edition of the event has not been disappointed.
Throughout the entire month of May, more than 26,000
people visited the exhibitions and multiple activities
that made up the biennial, whose theme was “Happiness
and Pretence.”
Numerous exhibitions held in several venues showed the
work of more than 50 artists from Canada, the United
States, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark and Chili.
Satellite activities attracted spectators interested
in forms of expression that ranged from a literary recital
and thematic march to dance, music, video, cinema, installation,
workshops for youth, lunch hour rendezvous with artists,
performance, musical improvisation, and more.
Québec City’s contemporary art milieu joined
our team to put together an outstanding programme. In
addition to making the event as electrifying as it was,
the participation of 23 collaborating groups, galleries
and organizations made it possible to extend our investigation
into contemporary art and, at the same time, multiply
international exchanges.
Special thanks go out to our collaborators, and to the
partners, artists and public without whom the second
edition of the Manif d’art would never have achieved
such resounding success.
