The following lecturers, occurred at l’École
des arts visuels de l’Université Laval October the 7, and
8 2000 to the 255, boulevard Charest Est, Québec.
Alexandre David
Alexandre David lives and works in Montréal, but has lectured at
Québec City’s Université Laval since 1991. He has
shown at Optica and Vox in Montréal (2000), at the Centre VU in
Québec City (1999) and at the Hales Gallery in London, England
(1994). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, particularly
at Galerie René Blouin in Montréal (2000), and the Het Consortium
(1999) and Stedelijk Museum (1995), both in Amsterdam. He holds a graduate
degree in visual arts from the Slade School of Fine Art in London.
Wim Delvoye
Wim Delvoye lives and works in Gand, Belgium. Former cultural ambassador
of Flanders, he has participated in numerous biennials, including Kwangju
(1997) and Sydney (1992). He owes his international reputation to Mosaïcs
and Cement Truck, works shown at Documenta IX (1991) and the
Venice Biennale (1999), respectively. Wim Delvoye has shown in museums
and galleries in England, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland,
and the United States. He is currently working on a project entitled Cloaca.
Vivian Gottheim
Originally from Brazil, Vivian Gottheim has lived and worked in Québec
since 1985. A grant recipient of both the Brazilian government and the
Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, she completed a graduate
degree in visual arts from Syracuse University and holds a post-graduate
degree in art from New York University. Her work, shown in Québec,
New Brunswick, New York and São Paulo, may be found in the collections
of the Banque Nationale, Loto-Québec and the Prêt d'œuvres
d'art of the Musée du Québec. Vivian Gottheim has been a
conference speaker in Canada and Brazil and has written extensively on
art.
Charles Guilbert
For the last fifteen years, Charles Guilbert has created playlets, using
video, words, images or song—often in collaboration with Serge Murphy,
Nathalie Caron and Raymonde April—to explore the theme of communication
among beings and our relationship to words. His videos and installations
have been shown in museums, galleries and festivals in Canada, Mexico
and Japan, as well as several European cities. Charles Guilbert authored
Les Inquiets in 1993, and made the recording Rien ne t'aura,
mon cœur in 1997. In February 2002, he participated in the third
Biennale de photographie et d’arts plastiques de Liège.
Spring Hurlbut
Spring Hurlbut is an artist known for her interior and exterior installations.
Solo exhibitions of her work have been featured in numerous public galleries
across Canada including, The National Gallery of Canada, Art Gallery of
Ontario, Musée du Québec, Musée des Beaux Arts, including
a one person show called: La Somnolence, at The Power Plant in Toronto.
She has exhibited internationally in Mexico, Germany, and the United States
including a installation in New York with Creative Time.
Yvonne Lammerich
Born in Germany, Yvonne Lammerich lives and works in Toronto. She holds
a graduate degree in art history from Concordia University. In addition
to special projects, her solo and group exhibitions have been seen in
Québec, Canada, Belgium, Poland, Great Britain, France and Germany.
Her work may be found in the collections of the Musée du Québec,
the Art Bank of the Canada Council for the Arts, and Loto-Québec,
among others.
Bernie Miller
Bernie Miller is an artist, writer and sometime curator living and working
in Toronto.. He was a founding and long-time member of YYZ Artist's Outlet
in Toronto and also served on the curatorial board of the Toronto Sculpture
Garden for a number of years. Bernie has won a number of major Public
Art commissions which can be seen in Vancouver and Toronto. He has been
a finalist in several international competitions, most recently for the
Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington D.C. Recent publishing activity
includes a chapter he has written for Money Value Art and the
Forward and Introduction written as co-editor of the forthcoming Crime
and Ornament both are published by YYZ Books in Toronto.
Serge Murphy
In addition to his work in narrative and experimental videos (in collaboration
with Charles Guilbert), Serge Murphy creates sculptures that unfurl in
space. His individual work has been shown in Québec, Canada and
Europe. In the fall of 2001, he presented Autels de fortune at
Occurrence, in Montréal. He has also shown in several group exhibitions
in the United States, Colombia, Europe, and Canada. Recently, his piece
entitled Le Jardin de mon curé was part of the exhibition
Le Ludique, at the Musée du Québec.
Jacques Soulillou
Doctor of philosophy and art theoretician, Jacques Soulillou is the author
of Le Décoratif (Klincksiek, 1990), a now-classic essay
that examines the relationship between art and décor in contemporary
art and architecture. In 1988, he assumed the function of scientific curator
for the exhibition L'envers du décor, organized by the
Musée d'art moderne de Villeneuve d'Ascq. Jacques Soulillou is
currently director of the Institut franco-japonais in Tokyo. He is preparing
an upcoming publication entitled Le livre de l'ornement et de la guerre,
scheduled for release in 2003 (Parenthèses, Marseille).
Laura Vickerson
Laura Vickerson is an artist from Alberta who completed her undergraduate
degree in that province in 1981, taking a graduate degree in art at Victoria
University in 1986. Since then, she has traveled widely, and taught and
spoken at conferences in Canada and abroad. A frequent grant recipient,
she has shown in numerous exhibitions in Canada and England.
