Born in Montréal in 1971, Myriam Yates works with image-based mediums, mainly photography, video installation and recently 16 mm film. Her installations, often presented as diptychs, are developed through reflection on public space, modernity and the fabrication of images. Her work has been shown in events such as Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal (2007), Rencontres internationales Paris-Berlin-Madrid (2006-2007), and the Regina Festival of Cinematic Arts (2005). Her work has also been shown in various galleries, including Optica (Montréal), Centre des arts actuels Skol (Montréal), Gallery 44 (Toronto) and in institutions such as the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Oakville Galleries in Toronto (2005-06) and the gallery of Université du Québec à Montréal. She has participated in residency programs at the Banff Centre (Alberta) and at Main Film (Montréal). She holds a master’s degree in visual and media arts from Université du Québec à Montréal and is additionally the artistic director of a centre for contemporary art.
