PERFORMANCE + INSTALLATION
VARIABLE DIMENSIONS
COURTESY OF THE ARTIST
Performance artist Gwendoline Robin lives and works in Brussels. She holds an art degree from École nationale supérieure des arts visuels La Cambre in Brussels. An Erasmus grant recipient, she trained in the installation-sculpture studio of Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in Spain. Gwendoline Robin associates the object with the body and space, creating installations and perform- ances designed to provoke the unforeseen and the truly menacing. Using explosives, fire or smoke, she places herself in unstable situations, creating a tension between fantasy and reality. In seeking to link her own body to a fragile and threatening event, she is swept into the immediacy of the moment. An unsettling process, as there are no givens. Everything could randomly blow up at any time. Between laughter, derision and danger, something emerges: a confrontation between the brutality of fire and ex- plosives and the ensuing poetics.
